Message Back in the days when both models were similary priced (in NZ) - the Supra was known/reviewed to have a performance edge, but the Z was considered the better all rounder.

However even with the way the current market is - dont be thinking the Z32 is anymore affordable car than the Supra despite the sale valuation.

Both cars perform well to mods, and I think the aftermarket route would cost similar for either model as forged rebuilds and the follow on for 700HP tallies a costly shopping list (my projections are on par with a mates project Supra).

But for everyday automotive companionship the performance figures arn't the end all of such relationships.
In my experiance/opinion the Z has a more comfortable driving position and pleasent feedback whilst driving. Supra lacks a certain refinment, somewhat stiff/ride, where as the Z feels/is luxurious in comparison.

Prestige and styling the Z wins again.

Subsequential turbos versus Twin is also a noteable preferance best left resolved during spirited test drives.

I've also worked on both cars, and granted the 2JZ is slightly simplier, the Toyota OEM parts on the rest of the car are notably lesser quality or oddball designed. Ie: I'd rather work on a Z interior/exterior, but work on the Supras engine Bay. That said the VG30DETT engine is not really anymore difficult just time consuming.

But from your crucial price point - they are both high performance cars requiring maintenance/pampering/running cost. The outright purchase price somewhat becomes an almost insignificant factor in the long term, and shouldnt make you feel any different towards the cars merit. Especially if this car is to be like a hobby rather than a practical method of transport - in which case money is better spent on a bus fare.
